Rural Power advocates had a busy 4th of July week, meeting with 2016 presidential candidates on the trail in Iowa.
On the Democratic side, advocates joined Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD) as he toured the Des Moines Area Community College’s wind turbine learning facility. During the visit, Gov. O’Malley told advocates about his plan to have 100 percent of America’s electricity provided by renewable energy by 2050. Advocates also attended Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) campaign stop in Sioux City, where Sanders pledged his support for solar and wind projects.
Rural Power advocates successfully met with Republican Candidates Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on the campaign trail. Rural Power advocates were able to have an extended conversation with Sen. Cruz, who was attending a fundraiser in support of Iowa State Senator Bill Anderson.
